Emperor X - Unified Field - Indie Edit
Jonah Says: Really loving what I've heard of this album. All of Chad's previous albums have been, for the most part, slacker/indie/anti-folk slices of brilliance. Think, the gallows humour of someone like David Berman mixed with the delivery of Josh Darnielle/Vic Chesnutt. Clocking in at just over 30 minutes, I reckon Unified Field might be just what we need right now. A punchy, political, punk party. Definitely worth your time.
Chad R. Matheny has been releasing eccentric, lyrically-dense underground pop music since 1998, often under the name Emperor X. After training in physics, philosophy, and music composition, Matheny paused academic work and spent much of the past two decades crossing the world on buses and bullet trains to make music at locations ranging from a small but packed symphony hall in Portugal to an empty trade fair dome in northern Lebanon to literally-underground metal bars across Ukraine.
